Vivid Sydney 2026 is set to deliver its most ambitious drone show program yet, with 22 large-scale shows across 11 nights transforming Cockle Bay into a theatre of light, sound and storytelling.
Named Star-Bound and created by world-leading drone artistry company Sky Magic, the show features an original musical score commissioned from Australian composer Antony Partos. Audiences on land and water can tune into a dedicated FM frequency to hear the soundtrack live, creating a fully immersive multi-sensory experience.
Vivid Sydney Festival Director Brett Sheehy said Star-Bound evolved the festival’s drone shows from singular images into a larger poetic story.
“The journey begins with the smallest building blocks of life and gradually expands outward, moving through nature and into the cosmos, until an entirely new universe is born. It’s a show that is both intimate and epic, inviting audiences to experience something emotional, immersive and awe-inspiring,” Mr Sheehy said.

Steve Kamper, NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism, said the program reflected the government’s commitment to world-class experiences.
“The Star-Bound drone shows will transform Sydney Harbour into a canvas of light and storytelling, offering a unique and memorable experience for everyone who attends,” Mr Kamper said.
Shows are expected to be in high demand and early arrival is encouraged. The best viewing spots include the Cockle Bay eastern promenade, the southern boardwalk and Palm Grove, the western promenade and Pyrmont Bridge.
Vivid Sydney runs from May 22 to June 13. vividsydney.com
