Now is the perfect time to plan an outdoor adventure trip to the Northern Territory with registrations open for Australia’s richest fishing competition, Million Dollar Fish.

Visitors can experience fishing in many ways across the Territory, from joining a fishing trip with a local guide or hiring a boat, to fishing from the shore or venturing into some of the NT’s most spectacular and remote waterways.

The competition returns to the Top End’s waters from October 1 to March 31, 2027, with the million dollar prize accompanied by one of 100 x $10,000 barramundi.

Now in its 11th year, Million Dollar Fish has seen more than 1,200 red‑tagged barramundi released and more than $2.4 million in prize money awarded since its launch in 2015.

From casting a line in tropical wetlands and winding through remote tidal rivers to heading offshore in search of prized bluewater species, fishing provides a front-row seat to the landscapes, wildlife and waterways of the Top End.

The Million Dollar Fish season also coincides with the Territory’s Best Kept Season, from September to April, when visitors can enjoy better value, fewer crowds and more room to explore.

Visitors must be registered and over 18 to win. To register for Million Dollar Fish, visit the official website: milliondollarfish.com.au
