Virgin Voyages is charting a course directly into the path of totality for the 2026 solar eclipse as part of the brand’s Marvelous Collection.
The cruise line has two sailings offering front-row views from the open ocean to one of nature’s rarest spectacles, alongside NASA astronauts, astrophysicists and commercial spaceflight pioneers.
Total solar eclipses that cross the open Atlantic are exceptionally rare, making these sailings a genuinely once-in-a-generation opportunity.
Nathan Rosenberg, Virgin Voyages Chief Brand Experience, Marketing and Momentum Officer, captured the proposition simply.
“Everyone else is selling cabins. We’re selling the two minutes the sky goes dark over the ocean, next to the people who’ve actually been up there. You can’t stream this. You can’t scroll it. You either show up, or you spend the next couple of years explaining why you didn’t,” Mr Rosenberg said.
Valiant Lady sails August 5 to 20 on a ‘Solar Eclipse Iceland and British Isles’ voyage, visiting Portsmouth, Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool, Belfast, Iceland and Edinburgh.
Scarlet Lady sails August 10 to 22 on a ‘Solar Eclipse Barcelona to Rome’ voyage, calling at Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Cannes, Ajaccio, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast and Catania.
Onboard programming includes talks by a NASA astronaut on life in orbit, an open Q&A with Virgin Galactic astronauts and Will Whitehorn, the architect of Virgin’s commercial spaceflight program, a solar physicist’s guide to totality, an eclipse photography masterclass and designated eclipse watch zones offering the moment in silence, with live music or with expert narration.
Virgin Voyages has also curated a collection of eclipse-themed Shore Things, giving Sailors even more ways to commemorate their sailing.
- In Belfast, Northern Ireland – Eclipse Countdown: Stars & Cider – An immersive visit to the Armagh Observatory followed by a cider tasting at Long Meadow among the orchards.
- In Mallorca, Spain – Mallorca Caves: Eclipse Countdown – A descent into the Genova Caves with an eclipse-savvy guide weaving astronomy into island lore, followed by a taste of Mallorcan culture.
- In Ibiza, Spain – Eclipse Afterglow: Ibiza Sound & Soul – Yoga in the gardens of Jardines de Palermo, followed by a soothing sound bath. Ibiza at its most unexpected.
- In Isafjordur, Iceland – Eclipse Afterglow: Troll Peninsula Drive & Soak – A scenic coastal drive along the Troll Peninsula, past waterfalls, a glassy reservoir and historic fishing huts, ending in a geothermal soak beneath Arctic skies.
