Unforgettable Travel Company has smashed participation records in its annual Healthy Office Challenge, with 91 per cent of employees taking part in the six-week wellness initiative.
The challenge, which ran from 20 April to 31 May, saw 78 staff members across 19 teams collectively rack up more than 37 million steps — the equivalent of almost 30,000 kilometres or 708 marathons.
Employees from across the business, including the Australian office of small-ship cruise specialist Unforgettable Croatia, also completed 1,654 workouts, 865 yoga sessions and 1,229 meditation sessions, spending a combined 1,648 hours exercising and burning more than 2.1 million calories.
Participants earned points for activities including walking, exercise, meditation, hydration and sleep, with teams competing across departments and offices. The challenge also generated strong engagement, with nearly 1,400 messages and hundreds of photos and videos shared through a dedicated WhatsApp group.
As a reward, all employees who completed the challenge received an additional two days of annual leave, along with subsidies for healthy food and gym memberships. Staff without fitness trackers were also provided with Fitbits to help monitor their progress.
The initiative forms part of Unforgettable Travel Company’s broader employee wellbeing program, which includes a £1,000 annual Travel Enrichment Fund, a Family Horizons Fund supporting fertility treatment, adoption and surrogacy costs, enhanced sick leave benefits and company-funded wellbeing subscriptions.
The results come shortly after the company was named among the UK’s best workplaces in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work rankings.
Unforgettable Travel Company co-founder Graham Carter said the challenge had become an important part of the company’s culture.
“I’m incredibly proud of how our team has embraced this year’s Healthy Office Challenge, getting involved and supporting one another throughout,” Carter said.
“To have 91 per cent of the company take part is a brilliant achievement, and the results speak for themselves.”
He added that investing in employee wellbeing remained central to the company’s workplace philosophy.
“Creating an exceptional workplace means investing in our people both professionally and personally. The challenge reflects our wider commitment to employee wellbeing, and being named in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list is fantastic recognition of the culture we’re continuing to build together.”
