Travel technology company WeTravel has acquired New Zealand based Tourwriter, expanding its focus on luxury and tailor made multi-day travel following growth in demand for customised itineraries.
The deal is WeTravel’s first acquisition since raising $US92 million in Series C funding in 2025.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed and Tourwriter will continue operating as a separate platform with its existing team, pricing and customer support.
Founded in Wellington in 2004, Tourwriter develops software specifically for bespoke travel designers, luxury inbound operators and destination management companies.
Its customers operate across 35 countries and have sold more than $US1 billion in itineraries through the platform over the past two years.
WeTravel said it will invest in Tourwriter’s product development, with plans to introduce additional global payment options and AI tools while maintaining the existing platform.
Ted Clements, WeTravel CEO, said Tourwriter’s specialist experience in complex tailor made travel was a key reason behind the acquisition.
“Tourwriter brings 23 years of expertise in the hardest corner of this industry, along with the same belief that an operator’s day should be easier,” Mr Clements said.
The move comes as customised luxury travel continues to grow. WeTravel’s 2026 Annual Trends Report found 56% of operators surveyed had seen increased interest in custom luxury bookings during 2025.
Among established custom and luxury organisers using WeTravel, bookings increased 16% year on year during the first half of 2026, while dollar volume rose 31%.
Custom itineraries can require operators to manage changing supplier rates, multiple currencies, commissions, taxes, deposits and supplier payments, often across several separate systems. Both companies are positioning their platforms around reducing that administrative complexity.
Tourwriter provides digital itineraries, supplier management, pricing and quoting, commissions, bookings, task management, invoicing, accounting and analytics.
WeTravel combines trip creation and booking tools with payment processing, payment plans, supplier management and payouts.
Glenn Campbell, Tourwriter CEO and Co-Founder, will continue to lead the business, with its team of almost 30 remaining across New Zealand, London and other locations.
“This is an exciting next chapter in Tourwriter’s 23 years,” Mr Campbell said. “We are committed to continuing to support the luxury travel sector with tools to help them increase their profitability and better serve their customers.”
Tourwriter’s team will become part of a wider WeTravel workforce of more than 400 employees across offices in Australia, Azerbaijan, the Netherlands and the United States.
