Queen Mary 2 will undergo a major refurbishment in 2027, adding new accommodation and updating dining, wellness, entertainment and outdoor spaces ahead of voyages departing from May.
The Cunard flagship, which operates regularly scheduled Transatlantic crossings between Southampton and New York, will enter dry dock for the works as part of continued investment in the ship.
Thirty-one new staterooms will be added, including 16 Princess Grill Suites and 15 Britannia category rooms. Existing Grill Suites will also receive refreshed interiors, furnishings and redesigned bathrooms, while the Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants will be updated.
Additional outdoor deck space will provide more areas for guests to relax, while existing activities including paddle tennis, pickleball and traditional deck games will continue.
The ship’s dedicated kennels, which allow guests to travel across the Atlantic with pets, will also be expanded and redesigned. Improvements include increased capacity, an updated owners’ lounge and a larger outdoor walking area.
Mareel Wellness & Beauty will receive a broader redesign, while Illuminations, the ship’s planetarium, will undergo a digital upgrade aimed at improving its immersive presentations.
Katie McAlister, Cunard President, said the refurbishment was intended to modernise the ship while retaining its established character.
“We are not reinventing what guests love about her; we are refining it beautifully and ensuring she carries it forward,” Ms McAlister said.
The new design direction is being led by Chris Finch, one of _Queen Mary 2_’s original designers, with interiors drawing on classic Hollywood influences alongside British design traditions.
The refurbishment follows the ship’s participation in New York Harbour’s Sail 4th 250 celebrations and comes ahead of a new season of Transatlantic crossings and itineraries across the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Canada and the Caribbean.
New suites and staterooms are already on sale for voyages departing from May 2027.
