Security workers at Sydney Airport have begun strike action this morning, with another four-hour stoppage scheduled for this evening.
Certis security staff are taking industrial action from 6am to 10am across the domestic and international terminals. A second stoppage is planned from 5pm to 9pm.
The Transport Workers’ Union says workers are seeking more full-time jobs, fairer rostering and protection against cuts to part-time hours. It has called on Sydney Airport to support more secure employment arrangements for contracted security staff.
TWU NSW State Secretary Richard Olsen said workers wanted greater certainty over their hours and rosters.
“These workers are simply asking for more full-time jobs, and rosters that aren’t changing by the hour,” Mr Olsen said.
Virgin Australia says security screening will remain open during the stoppages, but may operate at reduced capacity. The airline is advising departing passengers to allow extra time and check for updates from their airline. www.twu.com.au
