Heritage Line’s Anouvong has returned to the Upper Mekong following its most extensive redesign to date.

The ship has a transformed exterior, refined interiors, upgraded facilities and offers new shore excursions, deepening its connection to the culture and heritage of Laos.

Andreas Schroetter, Heritage Line Director of Sales and Marketing, said every element had been carefully considered to create a stronger sense of place.

“Our hope is that guests come away not only with memories of a beautiful journey, but with a real appreciation for the culture, heritage and communities that make the Upper Mekong so distinctive,” Mr Schroetter said.

The new exterior introduces a maroon and white colour palette drawn from the Vat of Luang Prabang, where centuries-old temple walls define the city’s architectural character. In Lao tradition, maroon represents protection from negative spirits while white symbolises purity and peace.

Interior changes include softer lighting, redesigned wall finishes in the buffet restaurant and refinements to suite furnishings.

The spa now pairs softer ambient lighting with textured wall finishes and decorative elements inspired by Lao craftsmanship, while the bar has been reimagined with a newly designed back bar of elegant arches and illuminated display shelves.

The former Nam Khan Signature Suite has been renamed the Anouvong suite, with design drawn from Wat Si Saket in Vientiane, the most significant architectural legacy of King Chao Anouvong.

Two new shore excursions to Pak Sith and Ban Baw replace previous visits, broadening the journey’s cultural focus through traditional craftsmanship, local communities and the spiritual heritage of northern Laos.
