A heritage listed building in Singapore’s Fort Canning Park is marking its centenary this September with a month-long program of cultural, dining and wellness experiences.
METT Singapore’s 100 Years of Stories program celebrates the history of the property, which was built in 1926 as the headquarters of the British Far East Command before later becoming a staff college for the Singapore Armed Forces.
Centenary activities include a heritage inspired cocktail menu at Canning Bar & Lounge, drawing on the history of Fort Canning Hill, including its early botanical gardens, spice trade connections and military past.
The hotel’s Madison House private members club is also running Fitness at the Fort, a wellness challenge incorporating Pilates, barre, HIIT and outdoor circuit classes, with participants able to complete six sessions to unlock prizes.

Celebrations coincide with the Fort Canning Park Heritage Festival from September 5 to 13, which will feature music, art, guided tours, exhibitions, talks, workshops and cultural performances. Hotel guests will have access to complimentary and family friendly activities across the park.
Tomas Stoila, Sunset Hospitality Group Singapore Managing Director, said the program was designed to connect the building’s past with its current role as a hospitality destination.
“100 Years of Stories is our way of celebrating the many lives this building has lived, while inviting guests to be part of its next chapter,” Mr Stoila said.
Now operating as an 84 room and suite hotel, the property includes restaurants and bars, swimming pools, padel courts, fitness facilities and wellness services within Fort Canning Park.
