Fiji Airways has announced a major expansion of its Australian network with the launch of new direct flights between Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) and Nadi.

Three flights a week will take off from March 19, 2027, opening up a new direct route between the two countries.

The announcement comes as Fiji has never been more popular with Australian travellers.

Fiji has just broken the one million visitor mark for a 12-month period for the first time in its history and Fiji Airways has come off the back of a record-breaking July.

Scheduled to operate three times per week on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays with the modern 2-class Boeing 737 MAX 8, the new service will also give Australians seamless onward travel across the airline’s growing international network in the Pacific, Asia and North America.

Fiji Airways is the fourth international carrier to announce services from WSI and the only airline to offer direct flights from WSI to Fiji, connecting travellers to the nation’s 333 islands. The new route will add more than 53,000 seats annually between the two destinations.

“The new Nadi – Western Sydney route is a natural next step for Fiji Airways,” said Paul Scurrah, Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

“It is one of the fastest-growing regions in New South Wales and the continued investment and development in the area makes it an increasingly important gateway for Australia.

“It’s also home to one of the largest Pacific Islander communities in the country, including a significant Fijian population, so this route is about more than tourism and trade, it’s about making it easier for our own diaspora to stay connected to family and home.”

The schedule is ideally timed to facilitate long weekend getaways from both Sydney and Fiji, complementing Fiji Airways existing double-daily services between Kingsford Smith Airport and Nadi.

“Australia is our largest source market and this new direct service further strengthens connectivity, creating new opportunities for tourism, trade and business travel while making Fiji more accessible than ever,” added Mr Scurrah.

To celebrate the launch, Fiji Airways is offering special introductory return fares from Western Sydney to Fiji starting from $639, available until September 23.

“Western Sydney is one of the most diverse and rapidly growing regions in the nation, which includes more than 70 per cent of our global city’s Fijian population,” said Simon Hickey, Western Sydney Airport CEO.

“We’re delighted to be delivering a new, seamless service for them to connect with family and friends, while also giving tourists more choice and flexibility to visit Fiji and explore everything the warm, welcoming leisure destination has to offer.”
