You may not know the name (yet) but Redion is working hard to become the leading travel insurance and assistance provider in the Australasian market.

Formerly known as Europ Assistance, Redion has grown by 177 per cent since 2023, going from a handful of Australian employees to 200 in just four years.

The company strengthened its position in the travel insurance market by acquiring successful local insurance brands Tick and Insure & Go Australia.

Building on this momentum, it became the global white-label provider of travel insurance products for Flight Centre from 2024.

From October 13, the Redion name will appear across Flight Centre Travel Insurance, Cruiseabout Travel Insurance and Travel Associates Travel Insurance policies, documentation and services as part of the company’s global rebrand.

The business also received approval from APRA for its own insurance licence on April 1, giving it control across sales, distribution, underwriting, claims management and assistance services.

Justin Sebire, Redion CEO Australia and New Zealand, said the licence marked an important step in the company’s local growth strategy.

“This signals we’re very serious about selling insurance in Australia and gives us full control of the travel insurance value chain,” Mr Sebire said.

“Instead of having to work with two or three different parties, our customers and B2B partners deal with one end-to-end travel insurer.”

Redion’s Australian operations are headquartered in Sydney, with an operations centre in South Brisbane where nurses, triage specialists and assistance coordinators provide 24-hour support for travellers overseas.

Mr Sebire said Bali remained one of the company’s more frequent destinations for air ambulance retrievals, while ski and snowboard injuries in Japan were among the cases regularly requiring medical assistance.

The company’s expansion in Australia and New Zealand has also contributed to its broader international growth. The former Europ Assistance business reported a global operating result of €277 million last year.

Mr Sebire said the rebrand was intended to better reflect the company’s global reach, with services now operating across more than 190 countries.

“As a company called ‘Europ Assistance’ we always faced the false assumption that we only provided services in Europe,” he said.

“Australia and New Zealand are an important part of that growth story, so the new name is more representative of us too.”
