Travelex has announced a new partnership with the National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA), making it easier for Australians to organise International Driving Permits (IDP) alongside their travel money before heading overseas.

Under the new deal, travellers can apply for an IDP online and collect it from participating Travelex locations across NSW and ACT, including Travelex at Sydney Airport.

In an Australian airport first, departing passengers can also apply for a same-day IDP at Sydney Airport, providing travellers with the ability to obtain both an IDP and foreign currency before departure and organising two key travel essentials in one place.

IDPs can be processed in as little as one hour depending on the time and day.

The partnership is ultimately designed to provide greater convenience and accessibility for Australians preparing for overseas travel, with participating Travelex locations authorised to provide IDP collection services and approved locations able to offer same-day issuance.

IDPs, which are issued under the authority of the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), are recognised in more than 150 countries and enable Australian licence holders to meet driving requirements in many overseas destinations.

They are valid for 12 months from the date of issue and are used alongside a valid Australian driver licence.

As part of the partnership, all 3.5 million NRMA members will also benefit from exclusive Travelex foreign exchange offers, including preferential in-store exchange rates.

“Partnering with the NRMA is an important step in making international travel more seamless and accessible for Australians,” said Asokan Sathurayar, Managing Director – Australia and New Zealand at Travelex.

“With more Australians travelling to destinations where an IDP is required, we’re proud to help meet this growing demand through our extensive retail network.

“Our exclusive benefits will also enable NRMA members to make their travel money go further – whether they choose cash or a prepaid Travelex Money Card.”
