Security screening workers at Sydney Airport are taking industrial action today, with two stoppages expected to slow passengers moving through security during busy travel periods.
The United Workers Union says its members are taking action over pay and working conditions after rejecting Certis’ latest offer.
The stoppages are scheduled for 5am to 8am and 4.30pm to 7.30pm. Security screening is expected to remain open, but at reduced capacity. Qantas says longer-than-normal queues are likely at Terminals 2 and 3, which will open from 3am.
Qantas and Jetstar are advising passengers to arrive early and allow extra time to reach their departure gates. Jetstar recommends checking in online where possible. Eligible customers may be able to change their flights without a fee; conditions vary by airline.
Passengers should check their airline’s latest advice before travelling. Those who booked through a travel agent should contact their agent about available flight changes.
