An international flight descended into chaos after a male passenger was allegedly tackled and restrained by fellow travellers after becoming aggressive and erratic during the journey.
The incident unfolded aboard an Emirates Airbus A380 travelling from Dubai to Sydney on Thursday, with around six hours of the flight still remaining.
According to reports, passengers became concerned about the man’s behaviour and intervened, eventually securing him to his seat with cable ties.
The man was reportedly kept restrained for the remainder of the flight while cabin crew contacted authorities on the ground and warned them about the situation.
The aircraft continued on to Sydney, landing on Thursday evening where Australian Federal Police officers were waiting.
Police boarded the aircraft after it reached the international terminal and removed the passenger from the plane.
Images reportedly taken after the incident showed a man in handcuffs being placed into a police vehicle, while footage from the airport showed officers carrying belongings through the international arrivals area.
The Australian Federal Police has not publicly commented on the incident.
It is understood the man’s behaviour may have been linked to a mental health episode and that he was taken to hospital for further assessment.
Details surrounding what triggered the man’s behaviour, whether anyone was injured and whether any charges will be laid have not been confirmed.
