Direct flights between Newcastle and Hobart have returned for the 2026–27 season, giving travellers across the Hunter region a two-hour alternative to travelling via Sydney.

Jetstar will operate three services a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until April 24, 2027.

The extended season will deliver 156 flights and 28,872 seats, representing an increase of 34 flights and almost 6,300 seats compared with last season. The program has also been extended by five weeks.

Flights depart Newcastle at 3.40pm and arrive in Hobart at 5.40pm, while return services leave Hobart at 6.20pm and reach Newcastle at 8.15pm.

Linc Horton, Newcastle Airport CEO, said the route would provide greater choice for travellers in both regions.

“For people across the Hunter, it means you can leave Newcastle and be in Hobart in around two hours, ready to enjoy everything Tasmania has to offer without travelling to Sydney first,” Mr Horton said.

The seasonal schedule covers key travel periods including Christmas, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race and Easter.
