Visiting Club Med offers a familiar comfort for me.

It’s not about venturing into the unknown but rather taking a break in an environment where you know what to expect: a unique property, excellent service, a diverse selection of high-quality food and endless activities for families.

Club Med Cherating delivers all I have come to expect from a Club Med resort and a bit more!

Located on the east coast of the Malaysian peninsula, about a three-and-a-half hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, Club Med Cherating is nestled between the jungle and the South China Sea.

Traditional Malaysian architecture blends seamlessly with modern amenities, creating an environment that complements its natural surroundings.

Many buildings are elevated on stilts and feature thatched roofs, providing a rustic and authentic look.

The resort’s main common areas are predominantly open-air, allowing guests to enjoy the tropical climate and natural beauty.

Although the resort is situated along the beach, swimming is not allowed next to the resort due to dangerous conditions. Instead, a ‘train’ runs throughout the day, taking guests on a five-minute ride to Club Med’s exclusive bay. There is also a walking track from the main resort to the bay.

The bay was our absolute favourite part of this resort, particularly the Zen pool. This exclusive adults-only area offers plenty of comfortable shaded seating, an infinity pool overlooking the bay and an open bar. It’s a quiet and peaceful spot, perfect for spending a few hours each day.

Next to the Zen pool is the Rembulan restaurant, open for lunch and dinner daily (reservations required for dinner).

At lunch, the restaurant offers a buffet featuring fresh salads and meat dishes. In the evening, it transforms into a semi-formal à la carte dining experience.

The bay is wide and shallow, providing a safe space for swimming. The water sports centre offers sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, with jet ski outings available for an extra cost.

The main area of the resort features a large pool sectioned by depth, with various activities held at or on the pool. The area around the pool is lively, with plenty of seating and an outdoor bar.

The main restaurant is spacious, with multiple cooking stations offering a huge and global selection.

Both air-conditioned and outdoor seating are available. Another restaurant, open for breakfast, late lunch and late dinner, specialises in local dishes cooked in front of you. The laksa was particularly delicious!

Once you’ve had your fill of eating and relaxing, there are numerous activities available.

The kids’ clubs offer a nonstop schedule to entertain your little ones throughout the holiday.

Many activities cater to adults as well, including tennis, badminton, trapeze, rock climbing, aqua fitness, squash, archery, futsal, table tennis, yoga, zumba, and a rainforest walk. The gym is well-equipped and for an extra cost, the spa offers a range of treatments.

Each evening, there’s a different show. On our arrival day, it was white night, where we dined by the main pool and watched a trapeze show over the water. For adults, the evening entertainment continues late into the night, although we didn’t!

Our rooms were spacious and comfortable, with a small balcony perfect for drying swimwear. However, watch out for the resident macaque monkeys as they are not friendly!

Finally, the GOs (Club Med entertainment staff) were friendly and efficient. The overall atmosphere provides entertainment and inclusion for all who wish to join in, but if you prefer to decompress in your own space (as we did), you are made to feel just as welcome.
